West Elm Zander Sofa Review (2026)

The Zander is a strong lounge sofa and a poor substitute for a desk chair. Its soft 2/5 seat, padded arms, and 24-inch seat depth made it comfortable for movies and naps without feeling excessively deep. The same give made upright work tiring unless we added a lumbar pillow. Spot cleaning was straightforward when we acted quickly, though the covers are not machine washable.

For three weeks, the Zander served as the main living-room sofa. Consider the fabric Zander if you naturally sit with your knees up, recline, or stretch out. Before buying one secondhand, confirm the 90-inch width and 48.5-inch diagonal depth against every doorway and turn on the delivery route. Inspect the frame for noise, compare cushion heights, test the zippers, and look for water rings or fading. Choose the Room & Board Metro if upright support matters more, or the Crate & Barrel Lounge Deep if you want a lower, deeper seat.

The fabric Zander is discontinued, so upholstery choices, replacement parts, and warranty coverage are not equivalent to buying a current model. Its soft cushions also require more posture adjustment than a firmer sofa, especially during work. The wide padded arms take up floor space without adding seat width, and the covers are spot-clean only. On a used example, uneven cushion height, stretched upholstery, odors, stains, or frame noise should materially lower the price.

The discontinued Zander remains appealing if you find a clean used example and want a soft 24-inch-deep seat, broad padded arms, and a visible wood base. These current alternatives solve different problems.

Room & Board Metro 88-inch Sofa

The Metro has a shallower 22-inch seat and a 17-inch seat height, which makes it easier to sit upright with your feet planted. Its cushions still feel welcoming, but the posture is more balanced for conversation or mixed daily use. Choose it over the Zander if you work from the sofa or dislike sliding forward.

Crate & Barrel Lounge Deep Sofa

The Lounge Deep moves further in the opposite direction. The current 93-inch version is 46 inches deep overall and uses a low, extra-deep profile built for curling up. It offers more dedicated lounge space than the Zander, but it also demands a larger room and favors relaxed sitting even more strongly.

The Sven shares the Zander’s 24-inch seat depth and mid-century influence, yet its tufted bench seat and slimmer shape feel more tailored. It is the better choice when you want a defined silhouette and a little more visual structure; the Zander’s padded arms and loose cushions feel softer and more casual.
