When you picture the ultimate soft bed, you’re probably thinking of something that just hugs you right in and helps your whole day’s stress fade out. But here’s the thing—not only are these kinds of mattresses awesome for folks who sleep on their sides, they’re also clutch for anyone needing that extra squishy cushion around sore joints or achy spots. If that sounds like you, or you just want that super cozy, sink-right-in comfort, stick around—I’m breaking down my favorite picks for the softest beds out there.

Our crew over at the Dweva Review Team has gone through over 150 mattresses, and we’ve narrowed it down to the absolute best of the best when it comes to soft ones. Each of these comes in at or below a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale—which is kinda the industry sweet spot for “medium” firmness—but every single one still nails it when it comes to solid support and next-level comfort. I’ll walk you through which ones I’d suggest for different kinds of sleepers, based on what really stood out when we put them to the test—and who might wanna keep looking for something else that fits them better. You’ll definitely find one that vibes with what you’re after. Our detailed testing and hands-on feedback have already helped over 4,500 readers find their dream mattress match.

Bottom Line: What’s the Best Soft Mattress?

The Nectar Premier totally takes the crown for best soft mattress in our book. It cradles your joints and melts away pressure along your shoulders and hips—so it’s a dream for side sleepers or really anyone who digs that super plush, cloud-like vibe when they crash into bed.

The Best Soft Mattresses

How We Picked and Tested These Mattresses

My crew of certified sleep science coaches and mattress testers — yeah, the same bunch that jokes about sneaking naps during work — takes mattress reviews super seriously. We’ve gone through hundreds of beds. Before any mattress makes it onto a “best of” list, we dive deep into the brand, check out what it’s made of, and put each one through a bunch of tough tests that we grade using our own review setup. After that, we stack those results against what’s considered the norm in the mattress world.

Soft mattresses are basically a dream come true for side sleepers. When it comes to picking the best soft mattress for folks who sleep on their side, we point straight to the Nectar Premier. As our tester Jake put it: “It’s got that balanced foam vibe—it’s plush and super pressure-relieving, but you can still move around easily. Perfect for side sleepers who switch things up during the night.” When Jake tested the Nectar Premier, he gave it a 4 out of 5 for both support and pressure relief. It landed at a 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, though its contouring and pressure-melting feel make it seem even softer.

The Nectar Premier takes things a step further than your standard all-foam mattress. Foam beds are infamous for running hot, but Nectar flips that idea on its head by making its foam layers more breathable and adding a cooling cover on top. That’s why we gave the Premier an impressively high 4 out of 5 for keeping sleepers cool. Weak edge support is another classic foam-bed complaint, but Jake noticed barely any sinkage when sitting near the edge and felt totally secure lying close to the side, too. So, the Premier also scored a 4 out of 5 there.

Our testers also liked how it felt while lying on their backs, so the Premier could be a great pick if you bounce between side and back sleeping. That said, since it’s made entirely of foam, it’s not super bouncy (3.5 out of 5 for responsiveness), which can make it a bit tougher to move around on. Heavier sleepers might find it a little too soft to stay fully supported, and the same goes for stomach sleepers, who usually need a firmer surface to stay comfortable. If that sounds like you, you might want to check out the original Nectar instead—it’s got a bit more firmness to it.

Helix makes a wide lineup of hybrid mattresses with different firmness levels, and the Sunset is the softest one in the bunch. The mix of bouncy coils and memory foam gives it that nice balanced feel—the foam part, as our tester Jake said, “really hugs your hips and melts away pressure.” He also mentioned that “the Helix Sunset is awesome for side sleepers and anyone who loves a super plush vibe.” That makes sense given its 5.5 out of 10 firmness score (on the softer side) and a perfect 5 out of 5 for pressure relief.

Our testers also noticed that they didn’t sink in too deep while lying on it, and they got that cozy contouring without losing support, thanks to the Sunset’s springy foam and coil combo. That landed it a 4 out of 5 for support. It’s worth mentioning, though, that our heavier tester and the stomach sleepers on the team weren’t fans—it was just too soft to keep them properly supported.

The Helix Sunset also crushed it in motion isolation and edge support, snagging a 4 out of 5 in both. Couples will probably love how the plush foams soak up movement so you don’t feel every toss and turn, and the sturdy edges make it easy to spread out without sliding off. It also stays pretty cool (4 out of 5), thanks to its airy cover and individually wrapped coils that let air flow freely. Since this bed nails it in so many categories, the main thing to think about is whether it fits your body type and your go-to sleep position.

The word “soft” might make you picture squishy beds that end up sagging or caving in, but that doesn’t have to be the case here. The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid packs a sturdy coil system underneath all that cushy foam, giving it real backbone and long-term durability. That’s why we gave it a solid 4.5 out of 5 for how well it holds up. Another big clue that this bed won’t cave over time is its strong edge support, which earned it a 4 out of 5. Jake mentioned, “The edges on this mattress feel reinforced, so I was totally comfortable sitting or lying right near the side.”

We tested the Medium version of the Sapira Chill Hybrid, though Leesa also makes a Soft model. Jake enjoyed the Sapira Chill while sleeping on his side, saying that even as a heavier sleeper, he still got plenty of pressure relief (4.5 out of 5). In our full review, he noted that this should be even more noticeable on the Soft model. Those same coils that keep the bed durable also add great support (4.5 out of 5). We found it comfy in just about every sleep position, though stomach sleepers might lean toward the Firm option instead.

The name “Chill” might have you wondering if it really stays cool—and yep, it does. Our 4 out of 5 cooling score says it all. Our testers found that the coil system lets air move freely and keeps the top foam layers from trapping heat. If there’s one thing that might make someone hesitate on the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid, it’s probably the price tag. Budget-minded shoppers might wanna check out the Nectar Premier or Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid instead.

Medium-Firm Feel Cooling Plush Pillow Top

A lot of people picture a fancy mattress as something super plush and cloud-like. Well, meet the DreamCloud Premier—a soft bed that totally nails that luxury vibe. That’s thanks in part to its cashmere-blend cover and cushy Euro top, which had Jake saying, “The DreamCloud Premier makes me feel like I’m kicking back in pure luxury.” We rated it a 6.5 out of 10, which lands in that medium zone, but the pillow top adds a ton of extra softness and sink-in comfort.

As for who might enjoy the DreamCloud Premier, Jake thought its medium-soft feel “hits the sweet spot for a lot of sleepers.” He said, “I felt solid support lying on my back, and awesome pressure relief when I switched to my side.” Jake’s on the heavier side and still found it supportive in both positions, which earned it strong scores in pressure relief (4.5 out of 5) and support (4 out of 5). We also noticed it’s got a nice bit of bounce (4.5 out of 5), even with that plush pillow top, making it easier to roll over or shift around during the night—or if you want a bed that’s got some good spring to it for, you know, other activities.

The DreamCloud Premier’s edge support, though, could be better (3.5 out of 5). Jake didn’t feel super steady sitting or lying along the sides, so it’s not ideal if you’re after really strong edges. Also, while it’s soft, the DreamCloud Premier doesn’t have that deep, slow “sink” you get from true memory foam—you’ll feel more like you’re lying on the bed than melting into it. For anyone who loves that classic, slow-hugging foam feel, there’s an all-foam version of this mattress, or you could check out the WinkBeds GravityLux, which we recommend as a great soft memory foam pick.

The GravityLux by WinkBeds is the brand’s only all-foam mattress. Luckily for anyone hunting for a softer bed, it comes in three firmness choices: Soft, Medium, and Firm. (For the record, we tested the Medium, which we rated at a 7 out of 10, though the Soft one should land closer to a 6). During Jake’s testing, he said he “was really impressed with the WinkBeds GravityLux’s slow-moving, body-hugging feel and its amazing pressure relief.” Based on what we found, we gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in the pressure relief category.

We recommend the GravityLux for back sleepers, since it’s got just enough lift to keep you from sinking too deep and getting swallowed up by the foam layers. Sadly, it’s not quite firm enough to hold up stomach sleepers’ hips properly. Jake described the GravityLux as “a sturdy, reliable mattress that’s a solid fit for side sleepers.” Foam beds can sometimes wear down quicker than coil ones, but we think the GravityLux’s dense foam layers will help it last a lot longer, which is why we scored it a 4 out of 5 for durability.

We also gave this mattress a surprisingly good cooling score (4 out of 5)—especially for a full-foam design. As Jake mentioned, “This bed’s cooling setup is really impressive, so it shouldn’t make you feel overheated while you sleep.” That’s because of the breathable cover and the gel-infused, open-cell foams that help move heat out. The edges also held up nicely (4 out of 5), only dipping slightly when Jake sat along the side. Couples will probably love that extra edge support, along with how well it absorbs motion (4.5 out of 5) so you won’t feel every little move your partner makes.

Jake summed up the Saatva Classic perfectly, saying, “This mattress has that old-school innerspring feel our testers always rave about. The plush pillow top and sturdy coil setup gave me just the right balance of comfort and support during testing.” Because of that, Jake gave the Saatva a 4.5 out of 5 for support. I personally sleep on the Luxury Firm version of the Saatva Classic and totally agree with what he said. Based on what we found, the Soft model keeps all the same premium quality and fancy feel as the firmer ones.

As a combo sleeper, I switch between all three positions throughout the night, and I found the Saatva comfy no matter how I slept. The two spring layers don’t just add support—they also give the bed a ton of bounce (4.5 out of 5). This makes rolling around or changing positions super easy. Unfortunately, it also means I can feel every tiny move from the other side of the bed—so fingers crossed your partner sleeps like a rock or you’re not a light sleeper like me. Judging by how often I woke up, I wasn’t shocked that it only got a 3 out of 5 for motion isolation.

Don’t let that throw you off, though. The Saatva scored high in plenty of other areas, like cooling (4 out of 5) and edge support (4.5 out of 5). It’s also made to go the distance with top-notch materials—including not one but two coil layers—earning a 4 out of 5 for durability. Another major plus is Saatva’s awesome delivery service. I took full advantage of their free white-glove delivery when I moved. A crew showed up, set up my new mattress, and even hauled my old one away, which made the whole process a thousand times easier.

Even though it’s marketed as a “budget” mattress, this wallet-friendly hybrid totally crushes it across the board. We were especially wowed by how well it stays cool (4 out of 5), which makes it a great pick for hot sleepers who don’t wanna spend a fortune. According to Jake, “If you run hot at night like I do, you’ll really dig the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. It’s got cooling foams and coils that help air move through so you don’t wake up sweaty.” On top of that, the Signature Hybrid nails it in a bunch of other areas, proving that you don’t need flashy extras to get a killer bed.

Besides its standout cooling, the Signature Hybrid also impressed our testers with its toughness (4 out of 5). This thing is built to hold up, since Brooklyn Bedding doesn’t cheap out on materials the way some lower-end hybrids do at the same price point. The coils steal the show here—they give the bed that super springy feel (4.5 out of 5) and firm up the edges for strong perimeter support (4 out of 5). The only catch with those coils is they don’t do much to block movement (3 out of 5), since we definitely felt some shaking when testing how well it isolated motion.

Jake mentioned that the Medium version of the Signature Hybrid “has that nicely balanced hybrid feel—you’ll feel like you’re laying on top of it rather than sinking into it.” He rated it a 4 out of 5 for support. We also gave it a 4 out of 5 for pressure relief, knocking off a point after noticing a bit of pressure build-up in the shoulders while side sleeping—but that could easily be fixed by going for the Soft version instead. Overall, average-weight back sleepers are gonna get the best performance out of the Signature Hybrid.

Athletes gotta have a bed that helps them bounce back after a killer workout, and usually, a softer mattress gives that nice mix of cushion and backup with a kind of hug-like feel. The Dweva Review Team’s Bear Elite Hybrid rocks a zoned-support setup and pressure-easing build to give folks that deep, body-fixing rest they need for muscle recovery and calming inflammation. For that, we threw it some solid scores for support (4.5/5) and pressure relief (4.5/5). Even though it’s hyped for athletes—since Bear’s all about cutting down pain—this setup could easily be a win for older folks or anyone battling back or joint aches. We tested the Bear Elite Hybrid in the Medium option, but there’s also a Soft one for anyone who wants that super cloudlike vibe.

Our tester Hailey pointed out the bed has this “fancy soft feel that still gives good support, thanks to those sturdy coils and cushy foam.” That combo made it awesome for both back and side sleepers. Jordan was into it too in those same spots, meaning it should hold up fine for most heavier sleepers. The Soft version might feel a little too squishy for some back sleepers, though, and definitely won’t cut it for stomach sleepers who need that firmer base.

The Bear Elite Hybrid pulled 4s and up pretty much across the board. It’s got sturdy edges (4.5/5) and a nice bit of bounce (4/5) from the coils, keeps things cool with its chill-to-the-touch cover (4.5/5), and feels super well-built with top-notch materials (4.5/5). The only real weak spot? Motion isolation (3.5/5). Not a total dealbreaker—it just doesn’t stop movement quite enough for super light sleepers who share the bed with a toss-and-turn type. Those folks might be happier with something like the Helix Sunset instead.

Got back pain? Your bed could totally be the bad guy here. If that rock-hard mattress is messing with your spine, you might wanna look into something softer—like the Nolah Signature. Our tester Hailey raved about how this one eases the aches, saying, “I’m obsessed with the Nolah Signature because it hugs my joints and chills out my back pain. It’s got that cozy, balanced memory foam vibe that lets me melt in just a bit.” That sweet balance comes from layering plush, pressure-soothing foams on top of sturdier ones underneath, which scored a 4.5 and 4 in those two test areas, respectively.

Couples dealing with back issues could also dig the Signature, especially if one’s a light sleeper or if your partner moves around all night. Hailey pointed out, “Thanks to that thick comfort layer, it really cuts down on movement. If someone’s tossing and turning next to you, you’re barely gonna feel it reach your side.” The foams soak up motion like a champ, but they don’t hang onto heat the way old-school memory foam usually does. During our cooling check, the temperature barely budged after lying on it for five minutes, so we handed it a pretty solid 4/5 for keeping cool.

Beyond people with back pain, side sleepers in general will probably be all about the Signature’s soft, squishy top layers. Our 6.5/10 firmness rating doesn’t quite tell the full story, since it’s got this extra plush, snuggly feel. For that reason, it might not be the best pick for every back sleeper and definitely not a fit for stomach sleepers. Most heavier sleepers will probably want something firmer or with coils—like Nolah’s Evolution Hybrid. Folks who want stronger edge hold (3/5) and faster bounce-back (3.5/5) might lean toward the Evolution, too.

Other Soft Mattresses We Researched

There are tons of super popular soft beds out there that didn’t end up making the cut. Usually, there’s just a version from the same brand that fits folks better, or we just didn’t have enough space to throw every single favorite in. Here are a few more options in case you don’t spot your dream bed on our main list:

Nolah Evolution

The Nolah Evolution mattress is a high-end hybrid and a total hit with our testers for how balanced and all-around comfy it feels. It also comes in a few firmness levels, including a Soft version. It gives off a similar pressure-melting vibe to the Signature that’s already on our list, though it does run a bit pricier.

Saatva Solaire

The Saatva Solaire is basically an adjustable air bed that can shift between 50 different firmness levels, all the way down to super soft. However, this one comes with a pretty steep price tag, which might not feel worth it if you’re mostly planning to keep it on the softer settings.

WinkBed

The WinkBed GravityLux made it into our top lineup, but the OG WinkBed hybrid also comes in a soft feel. However, that one has more of a springy, lifted innerspring kind of vibe, which may not click for folks who are die-hard soft bed lovers.

Wolf Pillow Top Memory Foam Mattress

This 14-inch bed layers on a cushy pillow top, four foamy pressure-busting layers, and a set of tall coils that move separately. It sits around a 5.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale and really stood out to us for its killer motion isolation, super deep sink-in feel, and how nicely it works for both side and back sleepers.

However, the edge support wasn’t as sturdy, and it felt a bit tricky to roll or shift between sleeping positions. Because of that, the Wolf only grabbed 3 stars for edge strength and responsiveness, which bumped it off my top list.

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid

This one’s honestly a personal favorite of mine, so it stung a little to leave it off the main list. It’s a medium-soft bed stacked with thick foam layers that hug your body perfectly when you’re on your side or back. However, it just runs way too warm for hot sleepers, only scoring 2.5 stars on our cooling test. Since staying cool is a big deal for most people, this one didn’t make the final cut.

What Matters Most in a Soft Mattress

My crew of expert testers and I check out every single mattress using a super thorough, medically backed testing system. These tests help us figure out who a mattress really works for, and who might wanna skip it altogether. When putting together my list of the best soft mattresses we’ve tried, I zeroed in on a few key things.

How We Tested the Best Soft Mattresses

You’ve probably noticed the crazy number of categories we dig into when we test mattresses. When it comes to soft beds, though, we really tried to zero in on what matters most to you—the stuff that actually helps you find the coziest, dreamiest, most cloud-like sleep setup.

What To Consider When Buying A Soft Mattress
